Berks alumna wins 2012 Central PA Magazine Writing Contest
Laura Hirneisen Fast ’06, a graduate Penn State Berks with a baccalaureate degree in Professional Writing, recently won the 2012 Central PA Magazine Writing Contest, beating out more than 200 other entries with her short story titled “Deal.”
According to Fast, the story is about a troubled teenager who reveals through interaction with a friend that she is cutting herself. It will be published in the upcoming summer issue of Central PA Magazine.
The contest was sponsored by WITF, The Patriot News, and York College of Pennsylvania. The awards ceremony was held on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at York College of Pennsylvania.
“The Professional Writing program at Penn State Berks has been a major influence on my creative writing,” commented Fast.
Since graduating, Fast has continued to write poetry, short stories, and genre fiction. She is employed as a purchasing agent by Hirneisen Electric, and she resides in Denver, PA, with her husband, Steve.
