Dr. Gary Kunkelman worked for more than 35 years in various communication fields and roles: newspaper reporter Army broadcast journalist, magazine editor, freelance writer, advertising copywriter, public relations manager, corporate communications director. He worked extensively with clients and media across the U.S. and Mexico, Europe, Japan and the Middle East.
Kunkelman began teaching at Penn State Berks as an adjunct in 1990 and received the outstanding teaching award in 2001. He joined the professional writing faculty full-time in 2002 and directed the program for two years. Teaching areas include journalism, magazine article writing, and public relations.
Additionally, he is a member of the American Studies faculty,with an interest in colonial America and religion in American life Kunkelman is an avid painter whose oils and pastels are in collections in the U.S. and abroad.
