ACT Review - NEW!

Most colleges and universities accept both the SAT and the ACT exam scores; it is a good idea to test in both as there can be a noticeable difference in results.

Here is a quick comparison between the ACT and the SAT:

  • The SAT tests innate knowledge and the the ACT tests subject mastery.  While their testing methodologies are different, the final result, determining student college preparedness, is the same.
  • ACT has five test sections--English, math, reading, science, and optional writing.  The SAT has three sections--critical reading, math and a required essay.
  • The ACT has 215 questions given in 3 hours and 25 minutes and only correct responses are measured.  The SAT exam has 140 questions plus an essay given in 3 hours and 45 minutes and wrong answers are penalized.
  • The phrasing of the test questions are more straightforward for the ACT exam while the SAT exams requires interpretation and understanding before attempting to answer.
The review provided in the SAT is sound for both exams but two additional weeks are added to the ACT review to cover the areas that are not tested in the SAT--higher math, grammar and reasoning, and a quick review of the science testing section. The REAL ACT Prep Guide is included in this review.
