Over forty graduates and spouses from the Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute reunited for the 13th Annual WPI Reunion at the Sheraton Reading Hotel in Wyomissing on Saturday, October 9, 2006. The program started with a welcome given by Christopher Brittin, Director of Development and Alumni Relations at Penn State Berks. Christopher expressed his gratitude to all of those individuals who had made donations to the Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute Engineering Scholarship. Chancellor Susan Philips Speece also gave a brief welcome and update on the Berks Campus.
New to the program this year was a guest speaker. Dr. Dale Litwiler, Assistant Professor of Engineering Technology, at Penn State Berks gave a presentation on the model rocket project that he uses as part of his EMET 330 Instrumentation course. Each semester, a model rocket is packed with various sensors and electronics discussed in the class. It is launched, recovered and the acquired data is analyzed. Dr. Litwhiler compared the technology that we pack into the little rockets today with the amount of available technology used to guide the Apollo space missions to the moon in the 1960's.
After the program everyone had time to get together to reminisce about their days at the WPI and what they have done since.
