The Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology helps to prepare students for positions in industrial enterprises such as machine, product, and process designers; computer-aided drafting and design specialists; computer-integrated manufacturing planners; technical sales personnel; production supervisors; laboratory technicians; and managers.
The program prepares graduates to enter the work force as technicians with sound technical and communication skills. Graduates may also continue toward a baccalaureate degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology at Penn State Berks.
The degree program stresses both theory and application, and encompasses a broad range of technical fields. Students study numerous subjects relating to the analysis and design of mechanical and manufacturing systems.
Courses related to the major include topics in: Manufacturing materials and processes; Mechanical design and processes; Computer-aided drafting and design; Societal responsibilities; Written, verbal & visual communications; Dynamics and statics; Strength and properties of materials; Technical math & physics.
This program articulates with Pennsylvania Department of Education-approved Tech Prep programs. Secondary students who have graduated from a program covered by a signed Penn State Articulation Agreement may be eligible for special admission procedure and/or advanced placement.
The program is offered days and evenings for working, location-bound students at the Berks campus.
