The Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology focuses primarily on the applied aspects of science and engineering. The program stresses both theory and laboratory practice, and it prepares graduates for work in the industrial electronics and electrical power fields.
Electrical Engineering Technology is the study of generation, use, and control of electrical energy in applications to communications, computation, and power. Intensive training is given in the fundamentals of electrical and electronic circuits and equipment, supported by extensive laboratory experiences and allied work in mathematics and science.
Students earning the associate degree can choose to pursue immediate employment in industry as engineering technicians, or they can continue their studies in Penn State Berks College's baccalaureate degree program in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology.
The program includes core courses in Electrical Engineering Technology including:- DC and AC circuits
- computer applications
- digital electronics
- analog electronics
- microprocessors
- electrical machines
- programmable logic controllers
Graduates of the associate degree program in Electrical Engineering Technology may work as engineering technicians involved in the manufacture, installation, operation, design, and repair of electrical and electronics products, or they may work with electrical utilities and heavy industry where they might become involved with electric power generation, power distribution, and machine control.
This program articulates with Pennsylvania Department of Education-approved Tech Prep programs. Secondary students who have graduated from a program covered by a signed Penn State articulation agreement may be eligible for special admission procedure and/or advanced placement.
This degree program is only offered at the Berks campus of the Berks-Lehigh Valley College.
